About the School

St. Mary’s Nyamagwa girls’ high school is a Girls School that is found in Bassi Boitang’re location Sameta division, Sameta District, Kisii County in Nyanza province. The school is about 15km from kisii town, 8km off Itumbe and 5km from Igare market. The school is catholic sponsored that was established by the Diocese of Kisii in Nyamagwa Parish in conjunction with the sisters of Mary in 1974 with an initial enrolment of 45 students, 4 teachers and 3 support staff. The school started with 5 classrooms and 2 dormitories and it was intended to carry a maximum of 160 students. By 1980 the school was taken by the government but the sponsorship remained. Consequently the government started posting teachers to the school. The school is registered on 3 hectares land and has two staff houses. The physical structures have since been increased from the initial 5 classrooms to the current. 26 classrooms and from the initial 2 dormitories to current 10 dormitories, a library, a home science room, a science laboratory and computer laboratory. In addition their are classrooms under construction. These structures were constructed with funding from the P.T.A and Constituency Development Fund (C.D.F).
